profile

Photographer Kyoko Harada was born in Kawasaki, a city in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. After studying editorial design in college and working for an advertising agency, she decided to pursue a career in photography and became an assistant to an advertising photographer. Since 1990, she has been working as a freelance photographer for advertising, magazines, music, fashion, events, etc. In the first decade of her career, she won such awards/competitions as the ADC’s Annual Awards (New York and Tokyo) and the Graphis Poster Annual. During the era of film photography, she created original prints from 220 format color negatives in her own darkroom. Even in today’s digital age, Kyoko produces her work based on the same film format, making prints from negatives, while afterward converting them digitally, using a high-performance scanner to preserve the original beauty unique to film photography.
